A phrase we are quite familiar with.
Excellent and one of the more available and coveted Colonial USA tokens. Called the “Kentucky Cent” as Kentucky is at the top state in the listing of the triangle of states with a K, and each state represented by their initials. These coins were struck in England for the colonies.
Provincial Token Identified as a Colonial Halfpenny or Cent in the United States “Red Book” manufactured in England and used in Colonial America for Colonial America.
This represents part of the “bridge” between England and the United States. Just an amazing part of history I hope we all can appreciate.
Due to the shortage of Regal coinage in the 1790's and the fact that the population of Great Britain had nearly quadrupled, the masses were forces to either create non-regal coinage of George III (1760-1820) or with permission from The Crown, they produced their own copper coinage to be used as change for workers and business customers. By law minting was stopped in 1815 although the coins were still available to be used. This coin changed hands in Europe or the early days of the United States.
These Provincial or Conder Tokens were produced by all types of businesses and professions as well as for political statements, so based on the image or business depicted on these tokens they have been collected as currency and as another collectible, tying in professions and coinage into an item with multiple collection interests points the intersect.
Thanks for looking, other items listed might hold interest, I enjoy early US Colonial coinage and several items currently listed.
Thanks for looking, International please inquire, No China.
